Introduction to the forum
Welcome to the Biosafety Capacity-Building Forum. This forum provides a platform for policymakers, practitioners, donors, academics and other individuals to interact and exchange information, views and ideas relevant to capacity-building for the effective implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and to share and learn from each other's knowledge, experiences and good practices. This can be done through:
- Online conferences
- Open discussion forum
- Online discussion groups
This forum is part of the continuing efforts to encourage and facilitate open discussion and exchange of information and experiences on different topics and emerging issues related to capacity-building in biosafety.
The
online conferences are moderated discussions on selected topics over a restricted period of time (ranging from one week to four weeks). The discussions follow a specific agenda with time-bound sessions to facilitate an orderly exchange of ideas and information.
They can take place either on a real-time schedule where pre-registered participants log in at the same time and respond to posted messages or on a staggered-time schedule where participants can post their messages at different times but within the timeframe allocated to each agenda item or session. The conferences are either closed (i.e. by invitation only) or open to all interested participants.
The
open discussion forum is a platform designed to encourage open debate on different issues or topics of relevance to capacity-building for the effective implementation of the Protocol. Interested participants can initiate discussions and post messages on any subject or issue, at any time. The discussions do not follow a strict agenda with time-bound sessions and are largely unmoderated.
The
discussion groups are restricted discussion forums established to enable specific groups (e.g. AHTEGs, Liaison Groups, taskforces, or Steering Committees) to communicate and exchange information, views or comments relating to specific tasks, issues/topics or draft reports.
